Tropical Milkweed -- Asclepias curassavica (25+ seeds)
Now shipping fresh seed for 2023 planting!
This native of South America, also known as Mexican Butterfly weed, is a great annual to include in your butterfly garden. Like other varieties of milkweed, it offers food for Monarch Butterfly caterpillars, and its flowers provide nectar to Monarchs and a host of other butterflies and insects. We consider it an annual because it's not frost-hardy, and don't recommend planting it in regions where it won't die off in the winter, as some studies have implied this may interrupt monarch migratory patterns.
What to expect with these seeds:
Germination: Seeds don't require cold stratification. Plant seeds 1/8 inch deep in potting mix and keep warm. (A seed starting mat can help the germination process.)
Planting: Transplant into garden after risk of frost has passed. Plants should be spaced about 18 inches apart.
