White Lined Sphinx Trio -- Hyles lineata
This wonderful moth is often mistaken as a hummingbird nectaring at flowers around dusk. White Lined Sphinx are occasionally seen flying during the day, but are most active in the early evening and just before sunrise.
The larvae feed on a wide variety of plants in the evening primrose family as well as grape. Adults are attracted to honeysuckle and Four O'clock flowers, along with other flowers that have coloras (flower tube) that fit its long proboscis.
There are multiple broods each year, and although widely spread across North America it's most common in desert environments.
Like all sphinx/hummingbird family moths the larvae have a horn on the end of their body, thus giving to the name "hornworm." White Lined Sphinx do NOT feed on tomato, but two other hummingbird moths do (Manduca sexta and Manduca quinquemaculata).
They overwinter as a pupae. Larvae dig into the ground and create a small subterranean chamber, pupate, and stay there until spring.

**Frames are on a special order basis. If not in immediate stock, they may take up to a fortnight to ship based on specimen availability. Specimens are rehydrated, spread, dehydrated, sealed into the frame with love, and shipped.
