These parasite resistant sleeves are a perfect size for rearing small groups of caterpillars on live tree limbs outside, and it allows you to let the tree do the work while providing good airflow to reduce disease issues. This is our GO TO sleeve for starting out small larvae.
Three zippers make it super easy to add and remove caterpillars and pupae, while offering flexibility to move the sleeve up and down a branch.
Both white and black (not pictured) available. We use white in our eastern Oregon hot desert environment, but cooler climates do well with black sleeves if heat retention for caterpillars is preferred.
Be sure to check for any spiders (or other predators) that may be on the tree branch before installing the sleeve. Otherwise you will end up with no caterpillars and a fat spider.
Put the sleeve over the branch, zip up, and tie off the bottom to keep ants and other things out.
For cleaning, soak the entire sleeve in a mild bleach solution for about an hour. We use about 1/2 cup bleach to 5 gallons of water. Rinse and dry thoroughly before reusing.
