Four O'Clock Seeds -- Mirabilis jalapa (25+ seeds)

Now shipping fresh seed for 2024 planting!

The common name comes from the plant's behavior, opening its flowers around dusk (after 4 p.m.) most of the summer. Since its flowers are only open at night, it's a perfect food source for nectaring hummingbird moths. It's also a host plant for White-lined Sphinx moth caterpillars (Hyles lineata). Packet will contain a mix of blossom colors.

This "tender perennial" was originally cultivated by the Aztecs. In mild climates, the plant will die back above the surface if exposed to frost. In colder climates, the entire plant will die. In any climate, it readily reseeds itself each year.

Planting: Sow 1/2 inch deep after danger of frost has passed. Transplanting is not recommended. Loves full sun.
