Spicebush Swallowtail Teardrop Necklace -- Papilio troilus
A common species ranging widely through Eastern North America, this species feeds on spicebush. Due to its darker body, it's able to warm up faster in the morning and fly earlier in the day and at cooler temperatures than other butterflies.
There are multiple broods, with the last caterpillars overwintering as pupae to eclose (hatch) in May.
Pendants use only the hind-wing sections, which have a somewhat metallic appearance on the underside.
