Fritillary Butterfly Double Sided Stainless Steel Locket-- Speyeria sp.
One of our PNW natives, with many species flying across the region. Adults have a beautiful orange and brown coloration with silver spots on the ventral hindwings.
Larvae feed on violets. Eggs are laid in middle to late summer, with freshly hatched larvae drinking some water then overwintering to begin feeding on fresh violet leaves in early spring.
